By sharing my creations with the world, I am doing my part to remind the world that Indigenous folks still exist.
We are resilient and we deserve to take up space.
Hi, I’m Tayvie
I am Ojibwe/Saulteaux and Métis with matrilineal heritage to Black River, Red River, and Poplar Point, along with settler descent from Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands. Some of my last names include Bruce, Wood(s), and Bird.
At the beginning of COVID-19, I encouraged my mother to teach me the traditional art of beading as a way for us to reconnect and heal with our ancestors.
Now, I spend hours each week immersed in traditional beadwork, painting, and illustration. My art is inspired by nature, skylines, bodies of water, and popular culture. Woodland art, traditional linework, and Métis flower beadwork continue to inform my modern day work.
Miigwech (Thank you).
“Tayvie made me the most beautiful custom earrings. I absolutely love them and couldn’t be happier.”
Land recognition
I am grateful to work and live on the unceded and traditional territories of the Musqueam, Tseil-Waututh, and Squamish First Nations. The biodiversity of their Coast Salish territory inspires a great deal of my work. To learn about these three nations, please continue to the links below.
